UNIFIED POWER CONDITIONING SYSTEM

For many modern consumers the quality of voltage is essential to guarantee a trouble-free operation. In practice, there are many network or voltage disturbances caused by flicker, harmonics and commutation notches.

Commutation notches are caused for example by converters
Flicker is a result of heavily oscillation load currents caused by the start of large motors, furnaces or welding machines
Harmonics are caused through non-linear loads such as rectifiers and switching of electronic power supplies.

The above phenomena may create disturbances for other users on the network. They result in a reduction of lifetime, because of overheating in motors, cables and condensers. Also the functions of other equipment may be effected, creating malfunctions on the control units for sensitive production processes, etc. In general all kinds of electronic equipment can be negatively influenced. The analysis of the cause of damage in order to design protection is quite complex, because harmonic analysis, network calculations etc. have to be carried out. From this information passive filters with capacitance and induction must be designed and installed. Any change to the network at a later stage will affect the performance of these filters, necessitating continuous adjustments.

UPCS is therefore a superior solution, because it solves all problems in one unit, without the necessity of detailed analysis, calculation and adjustments

Easy Installation
UPCS can be connected at any point of your power distribu-tion network in which both the consumers who need protec-tion, and the disturbance sources are located. The point of connection can for example be a spare feeder on any distribution board.
UPCS measures the instantaneous value of the voltage waveform and compares this with the ideal sinusoidal waveform. If necessary, the disturbed waveform will be corrected instantaneously.

Dimensioning
UPCS is available at ratings of 400 kVA and 100 kVA. The amount of filter power required is actually only a small portion of the full load, because UPCS only has to provide the energy necessary for the improvement of the disturbed sinus waveform. Our engineers only need to know the data of the installed sources of disturbance, which are printed on the equipment serial plate.

Typical Features of UPCS
Unified solution for all voltage problems caused through flicker, commutation notches and harmonics
Easy installation at any point in your distribution network
Easy dimensioning without cost intensive network analysis
Small footprint compared with conventional passive filters
Correction of disturbed voltage (current optional possible)

Easy Operation
The integrated display informs you of the status of the system:

- UPCS ON
- Overload
- Alarm

As an option an LC Display is available, which shows operational data, failure alarms, etc.

Central conditioning of voltage for your entire distribution network
Option: Local compensation for disturbance intensive consumers

Local Compensation
- is available as an option to the above described cen-tral conditioning of the voltage. In this operating mode, UPCS is located near the source of disturbance and will analyse the current. The disturbances will be corrected instantaneously by means of injected currents. This will protect other consumers in the network and also guarantee a trouble-free voltage supply for the whole network.

UPCS
- is the superior solution to any of your voltage problems. Easy to install, easy to commission and does not require adjustments in the event of changes to your network, as long as the required power for compen-sation does not exceed the nominal power of the installed unit. Detailed analysis of your power disturbance is no longer required.
