TRIBLOCK NOW KNOWN AS UNIBLOCK-T

"Uniblock" is the parent name for Piller Rotary UPS product. It can be configured in a number of different ways to suit the application. The Uniblock-T is a new name for the TRIBLOCK.
The Uniblock range:
1) Battery backed Uniblock-S (UBS):
a) Standard module Uniblock-R (UBR): Redundant module
b) UBSD & UBRD are both of the above systems direct diesel-coupled.
2) Battery-Less:
a) Uniblock-T (UBT): with Powerbridge
b) UBTD is the UBT systems direct diesel-coupled.
c) UBTDE is the UBTD with the diesel engine rated for the emergency power requirements ie: UBTDE500/500 means 500KVA UPS Power, 500KVA Emergency power, the diesel engine is rated at 1000KVA.

Key components
The main components of the UNIBLOCK-T System are:

A synchronous machine with combined motor and generator windings (Uniblock)

A coupling choke (Piller MagicChoke)

A kinetic energy store linked to the synchronous generator by a thyristor converter (PowerBridge)

The electrical connection to the mains and to the load is by electro mechanical switches not power electronics. A by-pass switch circumvents the system for servicing purposes.

The Piller UNIBLOCK machine
The UNIBLOCK synchronous motor/generator combination is a patented development of a brushless synchronous motor and generator in a single housing successful in well over 5000 mission-critical high power installations.

The UNIBLOCK machine absorbs current harmonics and reactive currents independent of the load current and load power factor.
Frequency fluctuations are balanced during independent diesel operation.
Modules up to 1670 kVA available. Parallel operation of modules increases total rated power up to 40 MVA.
The system corrects -20% input under-voltage permanently without diesel support.
Pure sinusoidal output voltage generated by the Piller synchronous motor/generator combination guarantees highest load voltage quality.

The Piller MagicChoke
The coupling choke used in the UNIBLOCK-T provides the electrical connection to the mains and to the synchronous motor/generator.

The precisely balanced coupling ("magic choke") compensates for all disturbances on the mains and so prevents their occurring on the load side.
Harmonic load currents and the reactive power requirement for the load are not transferred to the mains but delivered by the UNIBLOCK machine.
The special design of the choke ensures a broad input voltage range and limits reverse currents to the mains during short circuits to less than twice the rated current.

The Piller POWERBRIDGE
POWERBRIDGE is a high performance kinetic energy store for bridging short-term supply interruptions. It can store up to 16.5 MWs of energy. Total power failures of up to two minutes may be bridged (depending on load). This allows sufficient time for diesel units to start up during longer power cuts. This avoids frequent quick starts which pollute the environment and cause material fatigue.

In addition, POWERBRIDGE overcomes the disadvantages of battery operated systems such as:

costly maintenance
unpredictable battery performance or ageing
temperature dependency
