APOSTAR AS
Maximum security combined with high economy and maximum convenience
Complex computer centres or automated production facilities make high demands on UPS systems.
Non-linear loads have to be handled as safely as sudden peak loads and overloads caused by inrush currents.
UPS systems of this size are permanent components of the building structure and represent a high investment.
No compromise can therefore be made in the safety and economy of the UPS.
Security without compromise
APOSTAR is the UPS which meets the highest power supply security
requirements and is particularly economical. A combination of 16-bit micro-controllers and the latest
electronic power compo-nents controls, regulates and monitors all UPS functions with the highest degree
of reliability.

The APOSTAR on-line technology con-tinuously delivers a constant
output volta-ge and frequency. The load is supplied without interruption by the inverter even in the event
of a line failure.
To protect the load against damage by voltage errors, it is electrically isolated
from the battery by a transformer. Even with 100% unbalanced loading, due to its special connection
arrangement the transformer provides a very high degree of voltage accuracy to avoid endangering the
operation of the critical loads. Load changes do not affect the quality of the output voltage.
They are corrected with instantaneous-value accuracy by the inverter using pulse-width modulation
with variable clock frequency.
Non-linear loads - the predominant part of EDP systems
- produce high peak currents. The quality of the output vol-tage is maintained even with a peak current
to rated current crest factor of 3.5 (voltage distortion factor < 3%). Change-over to bypass operation is
not therefore necessary. Full UPS protection is therefore guaranteed. To reduce system perturbation,
the input rectifier of the APOSTAR can be a 6-pulse type with harmonic filter or a 12-pulse type.
This provides optimum matching to the specific conditions of the customer's supply system.
Secure battery availability
The battery is an important component of every
Uninterruptible power supply. The state of the battery is therefore con-tinuously monitored by the
microprocessor controller.
Temperature-controlled battery charging prolongs the life of
the battery.
The built-in battery cut-off character-istic offers reliable protection against exhaustive discharge
Cyclical battery tests indicate the pre-sent condition.
The battery monitor displays the residual capacity of the battery and determines for how long the
loads can be supplied. An alarm is generated if the remaining time is less than a pre-set residual value.

Security through digitisation
Stable performance due to the microprocessor control of
the controller boards. All system parameters are set in the software This ensures that the predetermined
battery values are precisely maintained over long periods. The high reliability of the controller boards
has been confirmed by approval for use in nuclear power stations.
Security at a glance
All necessary data is available at the control panel.

Status indicators (tri-colour LEDs) of the mimic display tell you the current operating state.
An LED bar chart shows the instan-taneous loading. An 80-character LC display provides additional
information in plain language. All operating data can be called up via a menu.
Interfaces (RS 232/RS 485) are available for remote indication and for connection to building
services management systems.
Verified safety
The APOSTAR AS conforms to the new UPS
standard EN 50091 and the CE requirements. It has quality assurance certification in accordance with
KTA Rule 1401.
Economy does not only depend on maximum efficiency
IGBTs, the modern power transistors, are used in the APOSTAR's inverters.
They operate with particularly low losses and are largely responsible for the high efficiency
over the entire power range.
The system efficiency is 94% at just 50% loading.
It reaches its optimum at 75% loading.

Low-cost expandability
The standard version of the APOSTAR can operate in the parallel mode and requires no external
controller (no master-slave process). A subsequent increase in power by simply connecting further
devices in parallel is therefore very economical.
